Paul Vincent Doherty, age 79 of Quincy passed away peacefully on September 26, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1931 in Boston, grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Quincy High School in 1949. He was a Quincy resident for over 63 years. Paul was a Korean War veteran, US Navy, and a 1961 graduate of Northeastern University. Like his father John A. Doherty, Paul worked for Boston Edison for over 35 years as an electrical engineer and enjoyed an early retirement. After retiring, he moved to the family’s waterfront cottage in Hough’s Neck where he enjoyed boating, weather watching and gardening. He was a member of the Wollaston & Quincy Yacht Clubs, and the Houghs Neck American Legion Post. He was a long time ham radio operator with the call letters: K1yWI. Husband of the late Esther (Comeau) Doherty, he is survived by his son Paul and his wife Margaret Judge Doherty, his son, Stephen, and his son Peter and his wife, Cheryl Doherty, all of Wollaston. He is survived by his brothers Dr. John E. Doherty of Needham, and Rev. Robert G. Doherty, SJ of Weston and also leaves 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 29 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1017 Sea St. Quincy. Burial with Military Honors will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Quincy. |
