William P. “Bill” Donovan, of Quincy, passed away at Quincy Medical Center on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at age 75. Born in Boston, he lived in Quincy for most of his life and worked as an electrician for Local 103 for 25 years before retiring in 1994. A US Navy veteran of the Korean War, Bill was a volunteer at the So. Shore YMCA for 15 years and in his spare time enjoyed traveling and playing on-line poker and Keno. The beloved husband of Eleanor M. “Ellie” (Love) Donovan, he was the loving father of Michael P. Donovan, Sr. and his wife Michelle of Milton, Thomas A. Donovan of CA, and Tracy Kelley and her husband David, Sr. of Quincy, dear grandfather of Michael Donovan, Jr. and his wife Tracy, David Kelley, Jr., Patrick Kelley, Kelly Donovan, Alison Donovan, Shea Donovan and Riley Donovan and great grandfather of Kailyn and BreeAnn Donovan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Thursday, July 9 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Family and friends are invited. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Friday at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign 79 Coddington St. Quincy, MA 02169. |
