Edward A. Franco of Quincy passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at age 87. Born in Newport, RI where he was raised and educated, he lived in Quincy for 44 years. A WWII Army Veteran, Ed served in the battle at Anzio Beach, Italy and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He worked as a mail sorter for the US Postal Service for 30 years before retiring and was a member and volunteer of the Quincy Sons of Italy. The devoted husband of the late Eleanor, “Ellie” A. (DiPanfilo) Franco, Ed was a great father to his children, Kenneth P. Franco of Quincy, Linda A. Cully of Duxbury and Kathleen Franco and Bill of Quincy, loving “Pa” of Michael, Matthew, Adam and Meghan Cully, brother-in-law of Angie DelCore and Po DiPanfilo and is also survived by his special nieces, Donna and Gail and their husbands, Kevin and Paul. Ed’s family will cherish forever the love and devotion he showed to them and his kindness to animals. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, February 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery. |
