Violet M. (Johnson) Gillis of Quincy passed away at Quincy Medical Center on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at age 79. A lifelong Quincy resident, she graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1950. She enjoyed summers with her family in Falmouth and was a former member of the Quincy Art Association. Violet was the wonderful wife for 60 years of former City Clerk John M. Gillis who devoted herself to her family, including her son Mark S. Gillis, Sr. and his wife Diane of Abington, her daughter Pamela J. DeGennaro and her husband Peter of Weymouth, and her grandchildren, Mark S. Gillis, Jr. of NY, Lauren DeGennaro of Quincy and Derek DeGennaro and his wife Lindsay of Quincy. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 16 from 2:00 to6:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Monday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at a time to be announced, followed by a Funeral Service at Faith Lutheran Church, 201 Granite St. Quincy. Violet’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Antoine W. Badlissi and the staff of Carney Hospital for their outstanding care throughout the years.
