Ed Kelly, lifelong resident of Houghs Neck, died after a several month battle with cancer. Ed graduated from Quincy High School and served his country in the Korean War from 1953 to 1957. He was active in his community, playing baseball and hockey and coaching women’s softball and youth hockey. Ed was instrumental in the establishment of Quincy’s Babe Ruth League in 1962 and coached baseball for over 14 years. In recent years, Ed was a champion of the Senior Olympics, winning many medals and leading the senior volleyball team for several years. Ed was the devoted husband of Helen (Schlosser) Kelly. They shared 38 years of traveling, playing games and good times with friends and family. Ed was an avid reader, an animal lover, enjoyed walking and hiking, and was a recipient of the Houghs Neck Good Neighbor Award. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 28 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Most Blessed Sacrament, Holy Trinity Parish 1015 Sea Street Quincy. Burial is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
