Bernard J. “Bernie” Kenney, Sr. of Quincy passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at age 94. Born in Somerville where he was raised and educated, he lived in Quincy since 1946. A WWII Army Medical Corps veteran, Bernie worked for the MBTA as an inspector and then as an instructor before retiring in 1979. He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in W. Quincy. Married for 65 years to his beloved wife Grace M. (Cullen) Kenney, Bernie was the loving father of Bernard J. Kenney, Jr. and his wife Carolyn M. of Hanover and Marion, Stephen F. Kenney and John J. Kenney both of Quincy; dear brother of Doris McSweeney of Cambridge and the late James, John and Lawrence Kenney and Mildred Vecchia; and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Bernie’s family wants to thank Sally Greaney, his wonderful home care giver. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 20 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church 115 Crescent St. W. Quincy. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
