Violet V. “Viley” (Knight) Payne of Weymouth passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at age 95. Raised and educated in Quincy, she had lived in Weymouth since 1950 and worked for 16 years in food service at Weymouth High School. The last Charter Member of Glad Tidings Church, she was an avid Bible reader and deeply faithful. She enjoyed making afghans and could compete with Santa in her generosity at Christmas. She will be remembered for her self-deprecating sense of humor and her joy at living to see the Red Sox win three World Series. The beloved wife of the late William J. Payne, Sr., Viley was the loving mother of June C. Lewis of Rockland, William J. Payne, Jr. and his wife Julie of Quincy and David J. Payne of Abington, dear sister of William Knight of Hingham, his twin, Pearl Gilmore of Norwell, David Knight of Cape Cod and the late Ruth Mitchell, Genevieve O’Hayre, Paul, Charles, Kate, Philip, John and Luke Knight; and is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 8 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a Funeral Service at 11:00AM at Glad Tidings Church 158 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton.
