Phyllis R. (Balzano) Cocio of Quincy passed on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at age 85. Born in Naples, Italy, she was raised and educated in Quincy where she lived all of her life. She worked at several banks as a stock handler and for many years as a waitress at Maria’s. A volunteer for the South Shore Center for the Visually Disabled, Phyllis also used her crocheting skills to make 600 lap blankets for veterans. A great cook, she was an avid Red Sox fan, Bingo player and filled the State’s coffers playing the Lottery. The beloved wife of the late Michael Cocio, Phyllis was the loving mother of Daniel J. Cocio and his wife Niki of Quincy, Jack C. Cocio and his wife Rev. Gail Cocio of Mashpee and the late Michael Cocio, Jr.; dear “Nony” of Adam, Jonathan, Colleen, Jana, Jennifer and Jack, Jr.; “Great-Nony” of 11; daughter of the late Ciro and Antoinette (Belfiori) Balzano; beloved sister of Jack, Guido and Tony Balzano and the late John, Jerry, George, Joe and Mary; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 10 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Saturday there will be a gathering at the Funeral Home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
