Zaida (Hassan) Shaw of Quincy passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at age 76. A lifelong Quincy resident, she worked for many years with her family at Ma’s Lunch on Winter St. which served shipyard workers lunch for over 50 years, and was the office secretary of the Islamic Center of New England of which her parents, Samuel and Najia Hassan were founding members. Active in the Center’s activities, Zaida was also active in the community, a past president and member of the board of the Ward 2 Civic Association, a volunteer for Quincy Community Action and a disaster worker for FEMA and the Red Cross. Her greatest joy came from taking care of and spending time with her family and friends. The loving mother of Theodore David Shaw and his wife Cheryl Ann of Norwell and Michael Stanley Shaw and his wife Ellen-Sue of Weymouth, Zaida was the beloved “Citoo” of her granddaughter Emme Elizabeth Shaw of Norwell and sister of Allie and his wife Gayle Hassan of Weymouth, Katherine Haddad of San Francisco and the late Samuel, Albert, Mohammed, Abdo, Emma and Theodore Hassan and Fatima Hassan Abouelaila; and is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Peggy, Aiche and Esther Hassan, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and the Richards family with whom Zaida spent many wonderful holidays and Sunday dinners; and will be missed by her “grand-dogs” Sophie & Nigel. “God bless, honey. I love you all.” Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 24 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be an Islamic Service at the funeral home at 11:30AM. Burial is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
