Gaston “Jim” Grady Shoemaker of Quincy passed away at Norwood Hospital on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at age 92. Born in Mississippi, he lived in Quincy since 1952. A WWII veteran, he served first in the Army and then the Navy. Jim served on the USS Redwing and the USS Baker. After the war, he founded and operated the Boston Maintenance Co. from his home in Quincy for 32 years before retiring at age 62. The beloved husband of the late Marie P. (Mischler) Shoemaker, Jim was the loving father of Frank C. Shoemaker and his wife Kathleen of Methuen, John C. Shoemaker and his wife Paula of Natick, and Carol M. Cappola of NJ; dear grandfather of Eric, Lisa, Jennie, Sherry, Nicole, Antoine and the late Julie Cappola and is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 22 from 9:00 to 10:30am at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church 44 School St. Quincy. Family and friends are invited. Burial with Military Honors will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. |
