Gertrude E. (Kelley) Varney of Quincy passed away at Weymouth Healthcare on Friday, November 19, 2010 at age 87. Born in Roxbury where she was raised and educated, she lived in Quincy for 54 years. She worked as an accounting clerk for the Quincy Public School System and was a member and Past Secretary of Most Blessed Sacrament Ladies Sodality. The beloved wife of the late Maurice George Varney, Gertrude was the loving mother of George W. Varney of Brookline, dear sister of the late Helen McLaughlin, Alice Nagle-Hickey, William J. Kelley, Frances MacLeod, Florence Kemmett, Margaret Kelley and Thomas Kelley and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 21 from 2:00 to 6:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited to attend. On Monday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1017 Sea St. Quincy. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, W. Roxbury. |
