Dorothy C. Smart, age 86, of Quincy passed away peacefully with her family at her side after a brief illness on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Quincy Medical Center. A 13-year resident at 1000 Southern Artery, Dorothy was born and raised in Chestnut Hill and later resided in Hingham where she raised her family. In her younger years she enjoyed many summers in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. For nearly two decades, Dorothy worked at South Shore Bank in Quincy and as a dining room hostess at The Sheraton Boston and a singer at the Club Car in Canton. She was a longtime church and choir member at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hingham and most recently at Christ Church Episcopal in Quincy and also belonged to the local choral group, the Belles and Bows. Dorothy leaves her son Andrew Smart and his wife Anne Smart of Ft. Washington, MD, her daughter Susan Vaillancourt and her husband Michael Gilday of Arlington, and her three grandchildren, Sarah and Tyler Vaillancourt and Holly Gilday. Having generously donated her body to Harvard Medical School for research, Dorothy’s family will arrange a memorial tribute to her life in the near future. Details will be announced. |
