Rachel “Margaret” (Honkonen) Keranen of Braintree passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 at age 89. Born in Quincy where she was raised and educated, she was a graduate of the Woodward School for Girls, Bryant & Stratton Business College in Boston and the Providence Bible Institute. A West Quincy resident before moving to Braintree 55 years ago, Margaret worked for 48 years for Factory Mutual Engineering of Norwood where she was an office manager. A life-long member of the West Quincy Congregational Church, she was also a dedicated volunteer at Camp Clear in So. Carver where she served as its treasurer.
The beloved wife of the late Toivo V. Keranen, she was the sister of the late Russell Honkonen, sister-in-law of Helen Honkonen of Norwell, dear aunt of Anita Honkonen of Framingham and Dean Honkonen of Groton, great-aunt of Erik & Aaron Honkonen, and dear friend of Susan Wilson and her family. Margaret is also survived by her cousins, Ruth Moberg & Marion Schultz and many other relatives and good friends.
On Tuesday, October 13, there will be a visiting hour starting at 10:00AM, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Camp Clear, PO Box 202, So. Carver, MA 02366 or to a charity of your choice.
