Frances M. (Gillis) McDonald of Quincy, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at age 82. Raised and educated in Roxbury, she lived in Dorchester until 1992 when she moved to Quincy. A 45-year employee of New England Telephone, she worked as an operator and in the clerical and treasury departments. Frances was member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a longtime member and treasurer of the Kay Club of Dorchester and volunteered for many years at 1000 Southern Artery. Frances was the loving mother of Richard McDonald and his wife Kathleen of Scituate, Patricia Harding of Weymouth, Janet McDonald of Abington and Carol Fitzgibbon and her husband Dennis of Weymouth; dear sister of Helena Burrows and Claire Bigelow, both of Dorchester, Leona Starr of Quincy and the late Marie Ford; and is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 4 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Saturday there will a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
