Bruce Markham, 69, of Quincy, succumbed to his brave battle against cancer on Memorial Day, May 29, 2017. Son of Claire “Penny” Pendergast Markham and Robert Markham, Bruce was born and raised in Dorchester. The eldest of 5 children, he helped his mother raise his siblings when their father passed unexpectedly. Bruce was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1973. After his military service, Bruce went on to become a talented finish carpenter. In his spare time, Bruce loved spending time with his friends and furry companions at the dog park. He was also an highly skilled mountain biker and outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed camping and hiking. Bruce is survived by his best friend and wife of 40 years Mary Jane (Burrows) Markham; his children Michael (37), Kevin (35), and Katelin (31) of Quincy; his brother Ken Markham of Quincy; his sister Nancy Markham of Old Orchard, ME; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Brian and Barry Markham. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Thursday June 1, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Cremation will follow. |
