Frederick W. Caramanica of Quincy passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at age 87. Raised and educated in Everett, he lived most of his life in Quincy and worked as a contract work inspector for New England Telephone. A Korean War veteran US Marine Corps, Fred fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. He was a member of the Chosin Few New England Chapter and a Life Member of the Pioneers of America. The beloved husband of Mary E. “Polly” (Hickey) Caramanica, Fred was the devoted father of Ellen L. Gilbody and her husband Richard of Hanover and Carol J. O’Shea and her husband Deacon Thomas of Lynnfield; loving grandfather of Julie Murphy, Richard A. Gilbody, Molly P. O’Shea and Thomas F. O’Shea; dear brother of Catherine Knowlton of Everett and the late Robert, Edward and William Caramanica; and is also survived by the Hickey family and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Thursday, February 1st from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1017 Sea St. Houghs Neck. Burial with Military Honors is at Pine Hill Cemetery. Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to New England Center and Home for Veterans, Advancement Office, P.O.
