John M. Breen, 75, passed away September 10, 2010 at Quincy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Florence “Flossie” M. (Matanes) Breen.? He was born and raised in South Boston. He graduated from the Wentworth Institute of Technology and retired from Sippican in 1984, and worked as a professional engineer for several companies in the area and was a member of ASHRAE.? John was a veteran serving in Germany with the U.S. Army.? John’s family came first in his life and he especially enjoyed sailing and Cape vacations with his family. He also loved music and taught himself to play the piano, ukulele and banjo. John was the devoted father of six children, Michael of Taunton, John F. “Jack” of Braintree, Paul E. of Holbrook, Julie Donnelly of Weymouth, Robert C. of South Boston and Catherine (Breen) Finnerty of Braintree, and a brother Harry of Quincy. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will begin on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy, MA, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 44 School St., Quincy, MA. Burial will follow.? Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in memory of John to either St. John the Baptist Church or to Father Bill’s Place, 38 Broad St., Quincy, MA 02169. |
