Richard F. Buckley of Hingham formerly of West Quincy, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012 at age 93. Raised in Somerville, he lived in Quincy for 60 before moving to Linden Ponds several years ago. A WWII Veteran, he served as a B17 pilot in the Army Air Corps. An outstanding football player at Boston Latin High School, Dick remained an active athlete throughout his life, earning 8 gold medals at age 90 at the Quincy Senior Olympics. He worked as Housing Director for the 1st Naval District where he was once awarded Man of the Year. He was also an avid player at the Puritan Bridge Club in Weymouth. The beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Herlihy) Buckley, Dick was the loving father of Richard F. Buckley, Jr. and his wife Jeannette Urquhart-Buckley of Leesburg, VA, Maureen B. McArdle of Kansas City, MO and Patricia S. Miner and her husband Alan of Acushnet, MA; dear grandfather of Daniel and Kevin McArdle, Christopher and Michael Buckley, Erin Valitsky and Brian and Kyle Miner; and is also survived by his cherished companion, Pat McSweeney of Walpole. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church 115 Crescent St. W. Quincy.
