Albert S. Gates, Jr. , age 95, of Milton and South Dennis died on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Marina Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Quincy where he had resided for the past several years. Al was born in Baltimore, MD in 1916 and raised in Syracuse, NY where he graduated from Nottingham High School and attended Syracuse University. After serving in the US Army in the Pacific during WWII, he moved to the Boston area, residing in Milton, South Dennis and Quincy. He retired in 1985 after nearly forty years in the insurance industry.

Al is survived by his wife, Agnes Bradshaw Gates and a brother, Robert of Webster, NY. He is predeceased by his beloved only child, Judith Lee Gates, of South Dennis, and by two brothers, William C. Gates of Basking Ridge, NJ and John C. Gates of Cazenovia, NY.

A man of spirited kindness and good humor, a three-sport athlete in high school, a combat veteran of WWII,a respected professional in the insurance industry and a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, Al will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 7 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St.Quincy Center, followed by a Graveside Service at 12:00 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Rt. 134, So. Dennis.
