Obituaries

Amelia (Ortiz) Stearns of Quincy passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at age 89. A lifelong South Shore resident, she grew up in Quincy and worked as a secretary at Boston Gear Works and an administrator for Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance. She lived for most of her life in Wollaston, then at Leisurewoods in Rockland, and most recently at the Atria Marina Place in North Quincy. The beloved wife of the late Allen W. Stearns, to whom she was married for 54 years, Amelia was the loving mother of Jay P. Stearns and his wife Patricia of Quincy, Lisa Doherty and her husband Brian of South Weymouth and Lori Stearns of Wollaston; dear grandmother of Scott Doherty, Daniel Doherty, Jason Stearns and Zachary Stearns; sister of John Ortiz of Weymouth and the late Lawrence and Henry Ortiz; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Friday, November 18 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Saturday there will be a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 10:00AM. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery.
