Ann M. (O’Donnell) McGrath of Quincy, formerly of Charlestown, Dorchester and Hyde Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at age 79. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael J. McGrath with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Devoted and loving mother of Michael T. and his wife Sylvia of Quincy; John P. of Quincy; Mary E. of Holbrook; Kevin F and his wife Helen of Weymouth; and Brian and his wife Heather of Bridgewater. Doting “Nana” to seven grandchildren, Bryanna of Charlestown, Katie of Weymouth, Kevin, Lindsey and Brendan of Weymouth, Ava of Foxboro, and London of Bridgewater; and one great-grandchild, Jordan of Charlestown. She is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Carroll of Hanover and Jane Mulford and her husband Porter of Hanover; and her brother Thomas O’Donnell of Bridgewater. Ann was also beloved by many relatives in MA, OH, TX, Ireland, England and Canada, and many, many friends, near and far.

Ann worked in the medical field throughout her career, as a nurse’s aide at Carney and St. Margaret’s Hospitals in Dorchester, and as a home health aide. However, her true passion and devotion was always to her family. From family events to travel, as long as it was with her husband and children, she was happiest. She also loved to waltz and was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Irish Club in Dorchester, where she and her husband enjoyed Saturday evening Irish dances.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Sunday, July 23 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Monday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. John the Baptist Church 44 School St. Quincy. Services will conclude with interment at New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
Very special thanks to Patrick Stapleton, CEO and all the wonderful staff members of the Sherrill House Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Jamaica Plain, who so compassionately and lovingly cared for Ann. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sherrill House Pastoral Care Fund, 135 South Huntington Ave. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
