Air forceCamillo J. “Carmie” Della Barba, of Quincy, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at age 96.  A lifelong resident of Quincy, he was a graduate of the Quincy Trade School Class of 1938.  Carmie served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the 386th Bomber Group in England, France and Belgium, earning a Distinguished Soldier’s Medal for Heroism, which was awarded in May 1944, as well as other medals and awards. His favorite airplane was the B26 Marauder Thunder. He was proud to have served his country including service during the Korean War and retired from the Air Force after 20 years. He then worked as a quality control supervisor for General Dynamics before retirement in 1983.

The beloved husband for 65 years of the late Marguerite C. “Peggy” (Toal) Della Barba, Carmie was the loving father of Pamela M. of Quincy and Robert F. of Weymouth; dear grandfather of Melissa, Allison and Shannon; brother of the late Maria, Rocco, Salvatore, Dominic and Arthur; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Friday, February 12 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Saturday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial with Military Honors is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
