Daniel R. DelGizzi, age 94, died peacefully at home in Braintree on August 28, 2020 with his family at his bedside. Daniel was born and raised in Quincy and attended Quincy High School. Before his eighteenth birthday he enlisted in the Navy and bravely fought in World War II aboard the USS Riverside. He fondly remembered his time with the Navy and instilled a love of country in his sons. Upon his return he enrolled at Bentley College, the first in his family to pursue a college degree. Following his graduation, he worked as a salesman and later as a property manager. In 1955 he married the love of his life, Alice Schofield, and together in 1962 bought a piece of property in Truro, Massachusetts and with help from his entire extended family built the Truro Motor Inn which he ran for over 60 years. Daniel cherished the summers at the Truro Motor Inn, surrounded by family and with guests who over the years became family. Daniel’s 94-year life was defined by his love of laughter. Daniel loved to make people laugh and he was blessed with the gift of quick wit like no one else. Everyone who had the pleasure to meet him, even if only for an instance, would walk away laughing and everyone who had the pleasure to know him have a lifetime of funny memories. He will be missed. He was the beloved father of Dana M. DelGizzi and his wife Linda of Bell Canyon, CA and David J. DelGizzi and his wife Carolyn of Weston, he was the loving grandfather of Ryan DelGizzi and his wife Shelly, Allison DelGizzi, Jonathan DelGizzi, Theo DelGizzi, Matthew DelGizzi and Maria DelGizzi; great grandfather of Finn and Kai; dear brother of the late Louis J DelGizzi, Virginia DelGizzi, A. Charles DelGizzi and Henry DelGizzi; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
