Earl D. McNamara Sr., age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 28, 2014.  Born in Dorchester on February 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Joseph “Ted” and Edna (Malcolm) McNamara.

Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Frances C. (Sheil) McNamara, daughter Carolyn and husband Michael Callahan of Marblehead; son Earl D. McNamara Jr. of Quincy; daughter Lauren and husband Daniel Roy of Braintree; son Brian and wife Beverly (Tilley) McNamara of Whitman.  He was the loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Devin, Nicole, Julia, Michelle, Brian Jr., David, Isabella and Jacob.  He was brother to the late Joseph T. McNamara and wife Nancy (McDonnell) of Northborough and the late William and Virginia (Sheil) McNamara of Dorchester.

Earl’s work experience began at Caterpillar, and he eventually worked at the Quincy Shipyard.  He went on to serve his country during the Korean War, on the U.S.S. Argonaut, a nuclear submarine.  He returned home and went to work for the Quincy Fire Department, retiring as a Master Mechanic.

Earl had many passions.  He enjoyed having Sunday breakfast with Jack, fixing cars in his spare time, and traveling to Cape Britain, Nova Scotia.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed any kind of boating.  Earl loved to keep in touch with family and friends through email, long chats and visits.  He would listen to all styles of music, but and most importantly he loved spending time with his family.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd, from 4-8pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home at 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am in Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1000 Sea St. Quincy.  Burial will be at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne
