Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Smith) McDonough, 91, of Quincy died peacefully at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth on Monday, June 17, 2013. Born and raised in County Cavan, Ireland, the daughter of Michael and Ellen (Mackle) Smith, she came to Boston in 1937. After marrying her beloved husband, the late James F. McDonough, they settled in Quincy and raised their five children: Kevin F. McDonough and his wife Joan of Whitman, James M. McDonough and his wife Yoshiko of Okinawa, Brian J. McDonough of Quincy, Paul A. McDonough and his wife Christine of Weymouth and Nancy and her husband Gregg of Franklin. She was also the loving sister of Anne Marie Naples and her husband Robert of Quincy, Joseph Smith of Cape Cod and the late Patrick Smith, Barbara Delesky and John Smith. Elizabeth was known as Nana to 9 loving grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. Retired from Quincy School System and South Shore Bank, Ellizabeth was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and Senior Center.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church 115 Crescent St. W. Quincy. Burial is at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
