George E. Doherty of Quincy passed away in Danvers on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the age of 80. Born in Dorchester, he moved to Quincy as a teenager and lived here all his life. A salesman for Topps Inc., he was a past president of the New England Confectionery Salesmen’s Club.
The beloved husband of the late Constance “Connie” (Daly) Doherty, he was the loving father of Stephen J. Doherty of New Bedford, John G. Doherty and his wife Judith of Beverly, James E. Doherty and his wife Sue of Stoughton and the late Michael P. Doherty, the dear grandfather of Jennifer, Janean, Keith, Paul, Caroline, Brendon, Michelle and Jillian and great grandfather of Alyssa Barry.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Wednesday, July 22 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Family and friends are invited. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, W. Quincy at 10:30am. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
