Harold A. Southerland, a 57 year resident of Braintree passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at age 83. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he graduated from Quincy High, Class of 1949. After serving in the US Army, Harry worked at Boston University’s Physical Plant where he made many loyal friends before retiring as a Senior Staff Manager in 1990. He also was a past president of the Pipe Fitters Union, a member of Adams Heights Men’s Club and the Town River Yacht Club where he enjoyed boating with friends in their earlier years.

Devoted to his family and lifelong friends, Harry was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, the late Margaret A. “Peggy” (Welch) Southerland; the loving father of Susan Caron and her husband David of Marshfield, Dianne Sewell and her husband Ken of Norwell, Brian H. Southerland and his wife Jane and John E. Southerland, all of Plymouth, and the late Carol Bannon; dear grandfather of Jennifer Marsoobian, Elisa and Stephen Caron, William and Jaclyn Sewell, Sarah Southerland, Brian Southerland, Jr.,and Kyle Yngve; dear brother of Evelyn Wilcox of Braintree and the late John Southerland, Gertrude Prakop, Bertha Simpson, Georgia McGrail and Richard Southerland and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 21 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday, there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 8:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30AM Sacred Heart Church 55 Commercial St. Weymouth. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
