Obituaries

Helen J. (Brooks) Cook of Quincy passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at age 83. A lifelong Quincy resident, she graduated from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing, received her BS from Boston College and her Master’s Degree from Boston University. Her nursing career started at Quincy City Hospital where she was an evening supervisor for many years. Helen was a field supervisor and nurse for the Quincy Public Schools and taught Practical Nursing at the Voc-Tech until retiring in 1985 and then worked as a private duty nurse for 15 years.

The beloved wife of the late David S. Cook, Helen was the loving mother of Russell E. Cook of Palmyra, PA and Deborah A. Cairns of Ankeny, Iowa; dear grandmother of Jason, Ryan, Brittany, Devin and Briana; beloved sister of Theresa Brooks of Quincy, Jeanne Weigel of Chevy Chase, MD, Pauline Freely of Roslindale, Janet “Muffy” Leonard of Weymouth and the late Catherine Campana; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 17 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. John the Baptist Church 44 School St. Quincy. Burial is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
