Jacob H. “Jake” Foschia QFD, Ret. of Quincy died at John Adams Healthcare Center on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at age 89. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he lived here most of his life and lived 23 years in Plymouth after retirement. A WWII Navy veteran, he was a deep sea diver aboard the USS Boston which he had helped to build. Jake was a decorated firefighter for the Quincy Fire Dept, on the job for 30 years before retiring. His many commendations include one for rescuing people from house fires in 1956, 1957 and 1966 and for helping to capture an armed man who had just robbed a bank in 1973. He was a life member of the VFW Bryan Post and American Legion Post 95.

The beloved husband for 64 years of Emily (Moraitis) Foschia, Jake was the loving father of Katherine J. Von Wendt of Quincy and Jacqualine Foschia and her partner Sara Brewer of Sedona, AZ.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Jake’s Life on Saturday, February 6 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in Jake’s memory be made to the American Legion, Room 543-2, State House, Boston, MA 02133 or the VFW, Room 546-1, State House, Boston, MA 02133
