James E. Cox of Quincy passed away at his home on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at age 84. Born in Sharon where he was raised and educated, he lived in Dorchester for many years before moving to Quincy in 1981. A WWII Army Veteran, he was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions in the Battle of Po Valley in Italy while serving with the 616th Field Artillery Battalion, 10th Mountain Division in the European theater. Before retiring, James worked as a welder for Conrail and the New Haven Railroad.

The beloved husband of the late Kathleen D. “Sis” (Stoddard) Cox, he was the loving father of Kathleen M. Callinan of Quincy and Edward J. Cox of Rock Falls, IL, dear grandfather of Mark Callinan of Marshfield, Denise Madden of Squantum and James W. Cox of Rockland and beloved brother of Harold Cox of W. Bridgewater and Eleanor Drew of Georgia.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne on Thursday, December 2 at 11:15am. Family and friends are invited. Those wishing to follow in procession should meet at 9:45am at the parking lot of the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center.
