James F. O’Brien, age 79, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Norma and Warren O’Brien, and moved to Quincy 45 years ago. During the Korean War, Jim served in the National Guard, was a member of the American Legion and served as a greeter at Pease Air Force Base. He was the founder and manager of the Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, a position he held with passion and enthusiasm. He served for 32 years as a volunteer with the Quincy Auxiliary Police, rising from Patrolman to Deputy Chief.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris M. (Wenners) O’Brien, son Warren and wife Kristin of Acton, son James, Jr. and wife Maureen of Wrentham and three grandchildren, Keegan, Tommy and Kayla.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 20 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Saturday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1015 Sea St. Quincy. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery.
