James F. O’Brien of Quincy passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at age 79, surrounded by his loving family. He was the eldest son of the late John T. and Norene (O’Neil) O’Brien. Born in Boston, where he was raised and educated, he also served in the US Army. Jim worked in the electrical supply industry for fifty years, starting as a truck driver and working his way up to Manager of Sales for ESSCO, which became Branch Electric, and then NorthEast Electrical Distributors, where he finished his distinguished career.

He was a long-time member of the Quincy Yacht Club and their gourmet cooking club with his many good friends. Jim was a proud member of the ‘Over the Hill Club’ with whom he enjoyed many motorcycle riding adventures both here and abroad. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends, especially entertaining them at backyard gatherings by the pool.

James was the beloved husband of Katherine M. (Kelley) O’Brien, to whom he was married for 58 years. He was the loving father of James F. O’Brien, Jr. and his wife Linda of Millis, Christine M. Canavan and her husband Thomas of Braintree, Michael W. O’Brien and his wife Lisa of Weymouth and Katherine N. O’Brien of Kingston; devoted grandfather of Thomas, James, Mary, Kelsey, Sophia and Patrick; dear brother of the late Ann Marie Fortune and the late John T. O’Brien; brother-in-law of Stephen Fortune and Rita O’Brien; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours, which will be held on Friday, January 4 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center. On Saturday, January 5, there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea St., Quincy. Burial will be private.
