Obituaries

James P. Kenney, Jr. of Houghs Neck passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at age 81. Born in Boston where he grew up, he graduated from BC High, Class of 1947 and Boston College. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he settled in Quincy and worked for the Federal Government, Dept. of Defense for 33 years before retiring. James was an active member of Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Holy Name Society and Parish Council. In his spare time, he enjoyed his family (especially his grandchildren), gardening, and sailing and was often found working on some sort of home improvement project with his long-term neighbor and loyal friend, Bob.

The beloved husband of Agnes L. (Pimental) Kenney, he was the loving father of Robert Kenney and his wife Cheryl of Pembroke, Daniel Kenney and his wife Karen of Quincy, and the late James P. Kenney III; dear grandfather of Shaun Kenney of Arlington, VA, Jacqueline Kenney of Pembroke, and Caroline and Kathleen Kenney, both of Quincy; beloved brother of J. Richard Kenney and his late wife Ruth of Milton and Mary Doherty and her husband James of Quincy; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 21 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1017 Sea St., Quincy. Burial with Military Honors will be at Pine Hill Cemetery.
