Jeanette (Hanifen) MacDonald of Quincy peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at age 99 surrounded by family after a short stay at Weymouth Healthcare. Born in Lynn, she was raised and educated in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She moved to Boston in the mid 1940s before eventually settling in Quincy in 1966. For many years she worked as a
bookkeeper and secretary for Lantana’s in Randolph and was a member of St. Joseph’s Ladies’ Sodality and was a resident of Town Brook House.

The beloved wife of the late William A. MacDonald, Jeanette was the loving mother of Elizabeth Cicchese (James) of So. Weymouth and Elaine Holmes (Terry) of Pelham, NH; dear grandmother of Lauren McLelland (Jimmy) of Weymouth and Christopher Holmes and Lindsey Holmes, both of Pelham, NH; great grandmother of Caroline and Camryn. Beloved sister of James Hanifen of Antigonish, Nova Scotia and the late Marguerite Fell of Coral Springs, Florida and Florence Barry Morrell of Holbrook.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Church, 550 Washington St. Quincy Point. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
