Obituaries

John Elias Morgan of Quincy died on July 5, 2020 at age 68. Born to the late Thadis Lafayette and Beatrice (Smothers) Morgan on February 24, 1952 in Bogalusa, LA, John graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1971. After high school, he relocated to Boston, MA, and worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA for ten years. He later worked at TKT Laboratories in Cambridge, MA, for twenty years. John was better known as “Big John” by his friends and family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Bogalusa, LA, in his early years.

John loved Bogalusa, people, dancing, barbecuing, fishing, walking, and was an avid handyman around the house. He loved his family and friends and displayed his love through giving of himself and his time to many. He had a large personality that was warm, welcoming, and memorable. As a resident of Quincy, MA, he was also a fan of the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife Andrea King Morgan to whom he was married for almost 36 years; their only daughter: Kathleen Morgan O’Brien and her husband Kevin of Cambridge, MA; grandson, Isaiah John Morgan and granddaughter, Kaydence Simone Wharton of Cambridge, MA; his sisters, Hazel Viamill of St. Louis, MO, Mary Morgan of Conyers, GA, Carolyn Brown of Stone Mt, GA, Joycelyn Johnson and her husband Larry of McKinney, TX and Catherine Morgan of Clarkston, GA; his brothers: Joseph Pennington of St. Louis, MO, Thadis Morgan, Jr. of Stone Mt. GA and James Morgan of Decatur, GA; one Aunt: Pearlie Morgan of San Francisco, CA; Special Friends, Raymond Lowery and James Brown and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert Milton Morgan and Walter Dale (David) Morgan and his sister Ruth Lee Jefferson.

There will be a Memorial Service for John when it is safe to do so.
