Obituaries

John G. Collins of Quincy passed away at home on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the age of 81. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Dorchester where he lived until moving to Quincy in 1978. A Korean War veteran of the US Army, John worked for Walter Baker Chocolate before joining the MBTA as a Yardman and was a member of the Carmen’s Union 589. After retiring he loved to travel, putter around his yard, play cribbage and be with his family and was a member of the Wm G. Walsh Post, No. 369 American Legion, Quincy Elks and the Irish Cultural Center in Canton.

The beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Hanley) Collins, John was the loving father of Monica A. Becker and her husband Randy of CA, Barry P. Collinsand his wife Ina of Taunton, John J. Collins of Quincy, Daniel M. Collins and his wife Susan of Stoughton and Mary J. Haynes and her husband Dan of Oakham; dear grandfather of Meredith, Ryan, Alex, Jennifer, Kristin, Jason, Kelly, Delaney, Erin and Meghan; great grandfather of Nolan and Wyatt. He was the brother of Maureen C. Maclone of NC, Edward Collins of FL, Marjorie Roos of Marshfield and the late Helen Cullinan and Michael, Bernard, Marie and Vincent Collins.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00am. Burial with Military Honors is at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
