John J. Carroll of Quincy passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016 at age 88. Born in Roxbury, he lived in Dorchester for many years and in Quincy for most of his life. An Air Force Veteran, he served in WWII and Korea. He had a 26-year career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Dorchester and enjoyed bowling, pool, photography, walking at Castle Island and spending time with his grandchildren.  The beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (Walsh) Carroll, John was the loving father of John P. Carroll of Charlton, MA, Maura B. Eaton and her husband John T. of Weymouth,  Theresa M. McMahon and her husband Stephen M. of Quincy, Patrick J. Carroll and his wife Kimberly A. of Weymouth, Daniel J. Carroll and his wife Paula of Sharon and Barbara E. Smith and her husband Matthew T. of Hanover; devoted grandfather of David, Sherrie, Melissa, Michael, Brittany, Jennifer, Shawna, Bryan, Samantha, Shannon and Siobhan; great-grandfather of Jaxon, Cole, Trent and Madelyn; beloved brother of James Carroll and his wife Jean of Hanover and the late Cecelia Doyle and Peg Garrity; and is also survived by his brother-in-law Joseph Doyle of Rockland and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, June 9 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM at St Francis Xavier Church 234 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth. Burial with Military Honors is at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton.
