John J. “JJ” Johnson of Quincy passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at age 82. A lifelong Quincy resident he worked in the newspaper industry as a proofreader first at the Boston Herald for 20 years and then for 30 years at the Boston Globe. In his younger years JJ was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion of New England and was a Boxing Champion of the National Guard while he was in the service. An avid bowler and golfer at the DW Field Golf Course in Brockton, JJ also belonged to the Boston Typographical Union #13 and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

The beloved husband of Edna M. (Rollo) Johnson, JJ was the loving father of Theresa Johnson, John J. Johnson, Jr and Daniel F. Johnson all of Quincy, Alice Mazeika of Milton, James P. Johnson of Middleboro and William F. Johnson of San Diego, CA; dear grandfather of Melissa, Shawn, Jessica and Nicole Johnson, Alyssa Mazeika Connor and Michael Mazeika; great-grandfather of Kyle Johnson; beloved brother of Mary McLellan of Plymouth, MA and Margaret Gorman of Milford, NH; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 16 from 3:00 to 7:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center.Family and friends are invited. On Monday there will be gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. John the Baptist Church 44 School St. Quincy. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
