John J. “Jack” White of West Roxbury, passed away at Faulkner Hospital on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at age 77. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he lived in West Roxbury since 1962. A Korean War veteran, US Army, he was a member of the Carmen’s Union, retiring from the MBTA at age 62. A life member of the Squantum Yacht Club where he served as a Past Commodore, Jack was also a Past Commodore of the MA Boating & Yacht Club Assoc and life member of the Commodore’s Club of America. He was involved in the Quincy Bay Race Week, serving as a Past President and for 50 years before retiring, as its Treasurer. He was also a member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks and the Nickerson Post #0382.

The beloved husband for 47 years of Jeanne A. (Kavanagh) White, Jack was the loving father of Jeanne Marie Uhrmann and her husband Ron of Dedham, dear grandfather of Dylan, Logan and Katarina and brother of the late Lawrence P. White.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 11 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, N. Quincy at 10am. Burial with Military Honors is at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
