Josephine F. “Josie” (Mahoney) Murphy of Quincy passed away at Milton Hospital on Friday, July 17, 2009 at age 89. She was born in Bedford, England, and as a child came to Boston, where she was raised and educated and lived in Quincy for most of her life. A homemaker, she also taught sewing classes for Singer Sewing Machine Co. for many years.

The beloved wife of the late William F. Murphy, Josie was the loving mother of James Murphy and his wife Katie of Cohasset, Michael Murphy of Quincy, Christina Henderson and her husband Robert of Middleboro, Mary Jane Blazer and her husband Paul of Quincy and the late William Murphy, Edward Murphy and Catherine Marks. She was the dear grandmother of Olivia, Abigail, Nicholas, Jacob, Thomas, John. Eileen, Danny, Paul and Shannon, great grandmother of 5 and sister of the late Gerald Mahoney and Eileen McEvoy.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Tuesday, July, 21 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Family and friends are invited. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, W. Quincy at 10:00am. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery.
