Julia M. “Judy” (Giacchetti) Kahler passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at age 87. A lifelong Quincy resident, Judy worked as a nurse at Shattuck Hospital, Quincy Nursing Home and as a visiting nurse. A devoted congregant of St. Joseph’s Church, she was the soloist for over 40 years and was a member of the Ladies Sodality where she served as Prefect from 1992 to 1994 and 2003 to 2004. She was a member of the Ward 2 Civic Assoc., the 1000 Southern Artery Quilting Group, a Past Chief Companion of the Foresters of America and an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox.

The beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Kahler, Judy was the loving mother of Mary Jo Kahler Calkins and her husband D. Cameron of Taunton, and John A. Kahler and his wife Carolyn of Lafayette, CA; dear grandmother of Joseph and Max; beloved sister of Virginia Horne and her husband George Horne, Sr.  of Rockland and the late Louis F. Giacchetti; and is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Giacchetti of Hingham, Florence Kahler, CSJ of Brighton and Theresa Schmucker of Latrobe, PA, brother-in-law, Gene Aspinwall of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
