Katherine J. (Grasselli) Scanlan of Quincy passed away at Harbor House in Hingham on Friday, January 22, 2010 at age 87. Born in Quincy where she was raised and educated, she lived here all her life. During WWII she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Fore River Shipyard and later for many years as a laundress at Old Colony Laundry in Quincy.

The beloved wife of the late William A. Scanlan, Katherine was the loving mother of Theresa Ryan and Michael W. Scanlan, both of Quincy, Deborah Fordham of N. Weymouth and the late Kevin Grasselli, dear grandmother of Kathy Ryan, Matthew Ryan, QFD and Pat Ryan, QFD, great grandmother of Nicole, Lily, Ryan, Emily, Matthew, Sean, Renee and Ashley and great-great grandmother of Charles and Isabelle. She was the beloved sister of the late Joseph and John Grasselli and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Monday, January 25 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Family and friends are invited. On Tuesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 10:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:30am. Burial is in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
