Obituaries

Leona M. (Gillis) Starr of Quincy, formerly of Hyde Park and Dorchester, died on Monday, August 14, 2017 at South Shore Hospital at age 82. Raised and educated in Roxbury, Leona also attended Katharine Gibbs Business School. She worked as a medical secretary at the Lemuel Shattuck and Faulkner Hospitals in Jamaica Plain and Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. An avid camper, Leona loved to camp at Horseneck Beach in Westport. She volunteered for many years at 1000 Southern Artery.

She was the loving mother of Karen Kreuscher and Karl Kreuscher of Loxahatchee, Florida, Debra Creighton and George Creighton of East Walpole and John Starr, Jr. of Norton and Barbara Starr; dear sister of the late Frances McDonald, the late Marie Ford, and Helena Burrows and Claire Bigelow, both of Dorchester; the cherished grandmother of Jessica and Robert Creighton, Jennifer Vitt and Shawn and Christopher Starr; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Thursday, August 24 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 550 Washington St., Quincy. Burial will be at a later date.
