Linus F., Sr. “Lenny” McManus, age 88, of Middleboro, formerly of Braintree, Dorchester, and PEI Canada died peacefully of natural causes on May 20, 2012. He was born September 30, 1923, in Kelly’s Cross, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was the last of 13 children born to Thomas Henry and Margaret (Cavanagh) McManus. According to family lore, the day he came into this world the barn blew down on the family farm. He left this world the same way he lived his life, with humility, quiet strength and dignity. Loving husband of the late Catherine “Kaye” (MacDonald) McManus. He is survived by son Dennis McManus and his wife Constance of Halifax, MA, Wayne McManus of Norwell, MA, Gary McManus of Norwell, MA, Glen McManus and his wife Melinda of Sutton, VT, Linus McManus, Jr., and his wife Sharon of Whitman, MA. Brother of Helen MacDonald, Rita McDonald, Beatrice Devereaux, and Josephine “Josie” Doyle. Brother of the late Mary Gallant, Louis McManus, Harold McManus, Margaret McKearney, Anna “Sally” McManus, James McManus, Loretta “Etta” Hagen, Alice McAvinn. Loving grandfather of Christine, Michael, Lauren, Rachel, Maureen, Danny, Bessie, Colin, and Natalie McManus. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends he loved living in the US and Canada. He leaves behind his cousin and life-long friend Ernest Cavanagh. He will be remembered forever as a strong presence in all of our lives. He worked until he was 70 years old and provided a great example of how to put your family first at all times.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Thursday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
