Malcolm J. MacDonald, Sr. of Quincy passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at age 79. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia where he was raised and educated, he moved to Norwood in 1964 and then to Quincy in 1967. He worked as a carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local #67. A former member of the Canadian American Club of Watertown, Malcolm enjoyed country music and was a NASCAR and hockey enthusiast.

The beloved husband of Mary Catherine (Farrell) MacDonald, he was the loving father of Robert MacDonald and his wife Jean of Braintree, Kenneth MacDonald, David MacDonald and Malcolm J. MacDonald, Jr. and his wife Janet, all of Quincy; dear grandfather of Shannon and Robert of Braintree and is also survived by his siblings in Nova Scotia, brother, Rannie MacDonald and brother-in-law, Walter Petrie, both of New Waterford, Cape Breton and sister, Jenny Hickey of Old Dominion; and Marie Young, someone special to his heart.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 15 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
