Margaret (Ruane) Brosnahan of Quincy and formerly a 50-year resident of Framingham, passed away on June 4, 2016. Beloved wife and best friend of over 53 years of Paul J. Brosnahan of Quincy (a native of Worcester). Born and raised in Carracastle, County Roscommon, Ireland, Margaret was the daughter of the late Bridget Caulfield Ruane and Michael Ruane of Ireland, and the sister of the late Honora Clancy of Dorchester, Ellen Gormley of Weymouth, and James Ruane of Carracastle, Ireland. Margaret attended the Palmfield School in Ireland and the Bryant & Stratton Commercial School in Boston. She was a bookkeeper at the former United States Fidelity and Guarantee Insurance Co. in Boston for a number of years and, after her marriage, worked as a contract bookkeeper/accountant for many firms in the Boston, Metrowest, and Washington, D.C., areas. She was a volunteer at Metrowest hospitals for over 30 years. Besides her husband she leaves loving nieces and nephews in the United States and in Ireland. Margaret also leaves her good friends, the Gibson and Healy families of Quincy, particularly her dear friend of 65 years, Maureen Healy of Quincy. Margaret was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Framingham and the National Council of Irish Americans, and was involved in the civil rights movement in Ireland for over 30 years.

The family thanks Margaret’s in-home caregivers Joan, Jean and Ashley and those at the John Scott House in Braintree for the wonderful care given to Margaret.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 7 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 271 Sea Street, Quincy. There will be a visiting hour one hour before the Mass, from 9:30 to 10:30AM, at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
