Marion M. Desmond, 98, died on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Whitney Place Assisted Living. She was not ill, rather she passed simply and peacefully at her residence. Mrs. Desmond was born and raised in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1938. She initially worked at Remick’s department store, where she quickly rose in stature from sales associate to the prestigious position of lingerie buyer. She gave up her career upon her marriage to Thomas Desmond in 1945. Four children and some 16 years later she began a second career at Raytheon in Quincy where she was employed for 30 years. Throughout this time, Mrs. Desmond also established a successful bakery which she ran from her home until age 75. She was also well known for being an avid craftsperson, especially her knitting and crocheting skills. Other interests included gardening, dancing and traveling with her husband.

After her husband’s death in 2000, Mrs. Desmond moved to Upton, MA to reside with her daughter, Pat. She founded a Knitting/Crochet Club at the local senior center, which is still active today. She was involved in church and senior activities, and established many friendships during her time there. She moved to Whitney Place Assisted Living in the neighboring town of Northbridge in 2013 where she enjoyed fully the many benefits offered.
She is survived by a son, Henry Desmond and his wife Marie of Falmouth; three daughters, Lillian Likos and her husband Stephen of Canton, Angela Desmond of Washington, DC, and Pat Stellato of Naples, FL; and five grandchildren, Desmond Bowe, Hollis Bowe Hughes, Alexander Likos, Hillary Likos and Tyler Desmond.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours which will be held on Sunday, January 28th from 2:00 to 6:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. On Monday there will be a Funeral Service in the funeral home at 10:00AM. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Quincy.
