Mark S. Gillis, Sr. of Abington passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at age 59. Born in Quincy where he was raised and educated, he graduated from Quincy High, Bridgeton Academy in ME and attended the Mass Maritime Academy. A sales representative for the MA State Lottery, Mark had previously worked for Delta Airlines Cargo and was a volunteer member of BEMA, Quincy Citizens Police Academy Grill Team and Abington Citizens Police Academy and was a CERT instructor.

The devoted husband of Diane M. (Brabazon) Gillis, Mark was the beloved son of John M. Gillis, Norfolk County Commissioner and former Quincy City Clerk and and the late Violet M. Gillis of Quincy, loving father of Mark S. Gillis, Jr. and his companion Tenny of NY; dear brother of Pamela J. DeGennaro and her husband Peter of Weymouth; brother-in-law of Bill Brabazon and his wife Jodie of Plymouth, Richard Brabazon and his wife Michelle of Portsmouth, NH and Annie Brabazon and her partner Grace Kelly of South Hero, VT; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 21 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 7:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM at St. Bridget’s Church 455 Plymouth St. Abington. Burial is at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.
