Obituaries

Mary D. Laing of Quincy, died August 20th, 2019 at age 72. Beloved mother of Caleb Sweeny of Quincy (and mother-in-law of Jessica Redfern of Quincy, MA) and Shayna Sweeny of Lowell, MA and grandmother of Elise Chanthavongsack of HI, Jaynali, Jaide and Zaine Senethavisouk of Lowell, MA and great-grandmother of Ezabella Barney of Honolulu, HI.

Mary was born at Brockton Hospital to the late James and Dorothy Laing. She grew up in Quincy and attended Quincy High School, graduating in 1963 and attending Quincy College. She worked for and retired from the State of Massachusetts Division of Employment Security. She was a lifelong resident of Hough’s Neck and was deeply involved in the community, serving as President of the Community Council. She is survived by her sister Susan Chase and her husband Malcolm of Whitman, her brothers Joseph Laing of Boston, Peter Laing of Dover, NH and Michael Laing of Florida and sister Jean Laing of Wayland, MA, nieces Lisa Chase of North Weymouth, Dawn Kelsch and her husband Brandon “Randy” of Whitman, sister in law Kathie Laing, nieces Amelia and Ella Chase and Tori Laing of Dover NH.

Mary will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary loved music, singing, reading and art and was an advocate for and friend to all animals (particularly cats). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a small gathering at Grumpy White’s on Tuesday the 27th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

As Mary was an avid animal lover, donations in her memory may be made to the MSPCA in lieu of flowers.
