Mary E. “Polly” Caramanica of Quincy passed away on Monday, October 27 at age 78. The daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Rossiter) Hickey, she was born in Boston and raised and educated in Malden and Everett. Before retiring, Polly worked as a clerk at the Workers Compensation and Rating Bureau in Boston and was a longtime member of the South Shore YMCA and Most Blessed Sacrament Ladies Sodality.

The beloved wife of Frederick W. Caramanica, Polly was the devoted mother of Ellen L. Gilbody and her husband Richard of Hanover and Carol J. O’Shea and her husband Deacon Thomas of Lynnfield; loving grandmother of Julie Murphy, Richard A. Gilbody, Molly P. O’Shea and Thomas F. O’Shea; dear sister of Gerard Hickey and his wife Kathy of Elliot, ME, Eugene Hickey and his wife Janet of Norwell, Richard Hickey of CA, Stephen Hickey and his wife Ruth Ann of Duxbury, Theresa Flaherty and her husband Robert of Walpole, Mark Hickey and his wife Janice of Westford and James Hickey and his wife Tracy of Franklin; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 30 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Friday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1000 Sea St. Quincy. Burial is at Pine Hill Cemetery.
